Dr Justin Teng

Imaging and General Cardiologist

Dr Justin Teng is a highly experienced and dedicated Imaging Cardiologist specialising in echocardiography and cardiac CT.

He completed his general cardiology training across the three major tertiary hospitals in Perth where he developed his passion for non-invasive cardiac imaging.

He furthered his training with a fellowship in non-invasive cardiac imaging at MonashHEART in Melbourne, one of the largest cardiac imaging centres in Australia. This endeavour further enhanced his expertise in advanced echocardiography techniques such as stress echocardiography, strain imaging, complex structural cardiac diseases, 3D echo analysis, intra-procedural transesophageal echocardiography (ASD/PFO closure, LAA occlusion devices, TAVI and MitraClip) as well as functional and structural cardiac CT.

He is highly qualified in cardiac CT, as one of the few cardiologists achieving the top level of accreditation by the Australian Conjoint Committee for the Recognition of Training in CT Coronary Angiography.

  • What is Telehealth?
During a Telehealth appointment, you will speak with a cardiologist via a video link (on a mobile phone, computer, laptop or tablet). Alternatively you may talk with your cardiologist by telephone if preferred or if video link is unavailable.
  • Am I eligible for a Telehealth consultation?
If you live within a regional area, you are eligible to access Telehealth consultations. These appointments provided by eCardiology are bulk billed through Medicare, with no gap fee charged to you. *During the current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Medicare has created additional item numbers to allow patients living within metropolitan areas to access Telehealth consultations. At eCardiology we use a simple, SMS-based videoconferencing platform as a default for Telehealth consultations.
  • Is my heart condition suitable for review by Telehealth consultations?
Telehealth consultations are often appropriate for a variety of chronic heart conditions such as coronary artery disease, hypertension, palpitations/arrhythmias and others. Cardiac conditions often require investigations such as ECG, echocardiograms, Holter monitors, cardiac CT scans as well as many others which can be organised and reviewed via Telehealth.
  • How could a Telehealth consultation with a cardiologist help me?
A Telehealth cardiology consultation may allow you earlier access than a standard in-person visit or may save you significant time and money in travelling to Perth or to your closest larger centre. It may be helpful and more efficient to guide and organise any cardiac investigations that are required within your local area before you see a specialist. For simple issues such as discussing test results or receiving medication advice, it may be useful in guiding you and your GP in how to manage your condition in your own region, without needing to see a cardiologist in person.
  • How will my Telehealth appointment work?
We use videoconferencing as a default Telehealth consultation to perform a detailed review of your symptoms, test results, condition and treatment as you would normally have during in-person consultation. You will receive an SMS on your phone which directly connects to a video call without the need to install any applications. If your phone is not capable of video calling, standard phone call is used as an alternative. During your Telehealth appointment there will be ample time to ask questions so you can better understand your condition or why any tests are being organised for you. Please ensure you fill out the Patient Registration Form, including an up-to-date medication list and previous medical documentation available to discuss with the cardiologist.
  • What do I need for the Telehealth consultation?
All you need is a device with a camera and microphone as well as a stable internet connection. On confirming your appointment, our staff will discuss the process of setting up your Telehealth consultation.
  • How can I request a Telehealth consultation?
You can organise a Telehealth appointment through your local doctor. You will require a current referral from your GP or specialist as well as a recent ECG to be sent through. Appointments can be made to allow you to attend the consultation in the presence of a practice nurse and/or your GP or from the comfort of your home.
